How to have a gorgeous winter micro-wedding

Smaller celebrations are here to stay, but that doesn't mean you can't still go BIG on your styling and create something incredible. Here I've rounded up my 5 top tips for creating a beautiful, perfectly-formed micro-wedding set up, with extra wow-factor to boot!

Make your tables SING

Rather than having around 30 trestle tables to worry about, you're probably looking at 2 or 3, so don't be afraid to go big with the decor! In this setup I opted for a giant floral arch with suspended lights and pillar candles to create a warming, industrial table-scape, which still felt intimate and totally beautiful.

Enjoy the little things

Those special little details can now be given your full attention too, so why not add a few handmade elements to really make it yours? For this smaller pub wedding the bride, Jess, made handwritten leaf place cards, a pin-board order of service, a bespoke cocktail menu as well as a candy bar and giant goodie bags for the younger guests to enjoy during the meal. Giving your (lucky) guests a totally tailored experience is much more achievable when your party is smaller.

Have a ceremony to remember

Rather than worrying about your guests getting bored and rushing through the ceremony, jump on the opportunity to make your micro-wedding all ABOUT it! Invest in a totally insta-worthing backdrop and florals to guarantee some gorgeous snaps, as well as bringing in the services of a humanist celebrant, to help you create a totally unique and personalised ceremony that will leave your guests wanting more (plus, you can have a drink during a humanist celebration so that's a win in itself; right?!)

Splash out on your suppliers

By drastically reducing your guest-list you are going to be making some BIG savings on price-per-head catering and drinks, so treat yourselves to those elements that you might have been trying to save on; whether it's a bespoke cake, an awesome videographer or even some gorgeous furniture to decorate your space with - you deserve it!

Focus on the fun-factor

There might not be a jam-packed dance floor, but you can definitely still curate some memorable guest entertainment to ease you into the evening. One of my couples last year opted to give their guests a totally luxe s'mores experience complete with faux fur throws and a campfire, whilst another treated their guests to some 90's nostalgia with squishy velvet sofas, a projector screen and a PS1. Remember that one of the main benefits of a micro-wedding is the chance to really connect with each of your guests, so create evening entertainment that's relaxed and the perfect setting for a good ol' catch up!
