Bae of the Day: Dove & Myrtle

It may be winter, but we're all about a bit of sunshine at JTB headquarters - and who else to trust to bring it in bucket loads but the wonderful Jane; my all-round flower queen and fellow large-glass-of-wine enthusiast. Her work is always inspirationally 'non-trad', with a design-led approach and some serious expertise in seasonal, totally beautiful blooms; if you're on the hunt for a floral wizard then read on to find out more and soak up some of those rays!

Who the devil are you?

I’m Jane, the woman behind Dove & Myrtle!

What’s your biz all about?

All things wild & floral! I create relaxed, nature inspired flowers to style all types of events: parties, press events, private dinners etc but mostly for weddings. In my opinion they’re the best events to work on because I have the time to really get to know my couples and I value that connection above everything else.

Tell us about your last event!

My last event was a seaside wedding in Whitstable and the brief was amazing. We created wild meadow table runners and an incredible organic installation for the ceremony area that looked like it was growing from the beams. We used a mix of neutral shades and lots of dark woody foliage, seed heads and unusual ingredients to reflect the couples love of outdoors and the natural world. It’s one of my favourites to date..

How do you get in the zone when you work? T

Tea (lots of it), and upbeat music so I can have a dance round the studio at any point I fancy. Current faves are Donna Summer, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack & Scissor Sisters. If I’m sitting at my desk working on proposals or admin I slow the tempo down to a Lana del Ray or Florence & the machine tempo.

You’ve seen quite a few – so what makes a wedding EPIC?

I think when a couple move away from what we know as a “traditional” wedding and are brave enough to create the day they want that reflects them as individuals and as a couple the magic happens. It becomes a true celebration of them and their love for each other and what could be more EPIC than that?

Finish these sentences:

A dream day off would be… spent outdoors and ideally involve sunshine and lots of swimming in a clear natural pool, laying on warm mossy grass staring up through the leaves and daydreaming, a great book and nothing to do, nowhere to be.

During a snack attack I always reach for… crisps!!!! They’re my weakness and Monster Munch pickled onion flavour are my dirty little secret haha

At the bar, by me a… dry white wine or a Dark n Stormy

I last binge-watched… Gameface

If I wasn’t a (florist) I’d be running... a chateau wedding venue or a yoga & creative retreat on Ibiza or Majorca

I’m a total babe (of course), but you don’t want to see me when… I’ve been drinking tequila!?!

The couple that NEEDS me for their big-day are… looking for someone who can take their ideas and run with them. Someone who has a very un-traditional idea of what wedding flowers should be, loves putting together colour palettes and especially enjoys creating wild, assymetrical large floral installations. My ideal couple want a relaxed & informal day and want the flowers to play a key part in their styling vision. Regardless of how much or how little they know about flowers, the couple that NEEDS me for their big day LOVE flowers & nature. If flowers are a tick box on the planning list, I’m probably not the florist for them.
